The 10th Meeting of the 1st Council and Technical Exchange Conference of the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation in Optical Fiber Materials Industry

On May 14, 2021, the 10th Council Meeting and Technical Exchange Conference of the First Session of the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation in the Optical Fiber Materials Industry, hosted by the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation in the Optical Fiber Materials Industry and undertaken by Shanghai Qianghua Industrial Co., Ltd., was held in Jinshan, Shanghai.

Yuan Tong, Secretary-General of the Alliance of China Electronic Materials Industry Association; Lu Wenbin, Deputy Director of the Base Division of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission; Zhu Aiping, Party Secretary of Jinshan District Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai; Liu Xinyu, Director of Jinshan District Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai; Chen Lijun, Party Secretary of Caojing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai; and officials from the Achievement Transformation and Regional Innovation Department as well as the Materials Division of the High-tech Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Zhang Dong from the Ministry of Science and Technology pointed out that since the Ministry launched the pilot program for industrial technological innovation strategic alliances in 2007, remarkable progress has been made. A decade ago, China relied mainly on imports for optical fibers and optical fiber preforms.

Since its establishment in 2010, the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation in the Optical Fiber Materials Industry has effectively integrated industrial resources including universities, research institutes and enterprises, smoothed the flow of talents across the innovation chain, and greatly promoted in-depth exchanges among industry, academia, research and end users as well as the formation of a joint research and development system.

The Alliance has mobilized advantageous resources from all parties in a systematic and efficient manner, focused on core goals, tackled key bottleneck technologies and achieved technological breakthroughs. It has risen above disputes over partial interests and short-term gains, enabled enterprises to become the main players in scientific and technological innovation, made overall plans and accumulated momentum for national interests and long-term value, and better served the national innovation strategy as well as national economic and people’s livelihood.

In his speech, Zhou Wenhua, General Manager of Shanghai Qianghua, extended sincere greetings and heartfelt thanks to all leaders and guests who have long cared for, supported and encouraged the company’s development.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the global economic landscape over the past two years, the optical fiber industry has undergone tremendous shifts. Amid another round of industrial adjustment, the company has adhered to its established business strategy, gradually transformed toward the semiconductor industry, sought breakthrough opportunities, and strived to achieve growth against the odds.
